I made the mistake of buying a Hewlett Packard Pavilion, and have been paying for that mistake ever since. The first hard drive crashed within weeks of the purchase, and though the replaced the hard drive, it took almost a month to get the computer back. It still randomly shuts down, sometimes right in the middle of working. It frequently will go to sleep and will not wake up, and hours of calls the the Hewlett-Packard “Help” Desk came to nothing. Now the machine is out of warranty and they won’t do a thing to help, despite the fact that the machine still continually reboots itself at random moments.
Don’t just take my word for it, though, check other review sites, like [...], where HP scored a whopping 1.25 out of 10 for customer satisfaction. Even CNet only gives the Pavilion a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Save your money, and buy a Sony. That’s what I plan to do as soon as I can rationalize buying a new computer. At that point I will take great pleasure in tossing this HP into the trash.

I have purchase a couple of HP computers and found that their warranty (in my opinion) is not worth the paper it is printed on. A piece of molding on one side of one of the computer was loose when I got it. I reported it to HP customer service right away (in India) but HP said that they have no record of that call. To make a long story short, the computer was returned to HP who then indicated that they regarding the loose molding as physical damage and not covered. During my discussions with HP, they said that anything loose was physical damage.
The reporting of the problem was a joke. You have to talk to someone in India that speak English but does not understand English. Try and explain to someone that does not understand english that a piece of molding on the computer is loose.
I would stay away from HP in general.
The company is not following through on their support or warranty. They need money. That is why their personnel took a 25% cut in pay. I know since I use to work with HP (EDS) people.

I bought this computer from Amazon two weeks ago for $699. My daughter saw it and bought it for $549. yesterday from Amazon. Amazon will not match that price and give me a $150. refund. While we were on hold(about twenty minutes) with customer service they jumped the price to $899. Now it is back to $699. I love the computer but would have liked to know that they no longer price guarantee for any length of time.

1. Bought extended warrranty for $300 and when something went wrong they claim you abused the laptop. If you say you are being treated unfairly, they hang up on you.
2. If you call back to talk to a manager, they say the don’t have managers because they are all equals.
Bought a Sams club extended warranty and they were great. Turn around was 3 days and the person you talked to spoke English as their first language!
